The Google obstacle course
Let’s say you want to properly log out of your Gmail account because you don’t want Google tracking you. This is how it works.
- Click on Profile.
- Click sign out.
- Click “remove account” First obstacle…what does this mean?
- Click the red circle. Second obstacle. Oh..is this a stop sign?
- Click “Yes, Remove” to the question “Remove account?” Third obstacle..oh wait, does clicking this actually delete my email account?
If you get this far, congrats, you’ve managed to log out. To whoever designed and signed off on this flow…well you can probably guess what I think.
The Data Protection Commissioner should look at this and ask the consent question.
